A Word from our Pastor

By Pastor David Eng

Praise God for the work he is doing in the Crossroads ministry! It’s amazing to me in seeing how fast this group is developing. Several years ago, the idea of having a separate ministry for older singles was proposed, but it always seem to be rejected. Many people had concerns such as “Singles won’t like being separated into different groups” or “Members won’t like being classified that way.” But thankfully God placed the burden in two of the members to start a ministry for their peers. When Karen Hong and Mimi Chew initially spoke to me about starting Crossroads, I praised God that he had placed this burden in the two of them and they wanted to act upon it. I have appreciated both of their efforts in leading and developing the group. I am also thankful for the additional members God has placed on the leadership team - Sue Chiang, Alice Gee, Alex Der, and Gary Lee. It’s been encouraging to see their enthusiasm and heart for the group. Although I have not been able yet to attend one of the events, I am glad to hear about the events and am happy they have provided times of rich fellowship. I haven’t sensed any person in this group having negative feelings because of the ministry of Crossroads.

As our church is currently going through the 40 Days of Purpose Campaign, I am reminded of a verse that was included in one of the chapters. Col. 3:15 tells us  “Each one of you is part of the body of Christ, and you were chosen to live together in peace.” As each of you continues to come together in biblical community, a bond begins to form, and an authenticity develops which can only be experienced in Christ. My prayer is that as Crossroads develops, each of you will experience this more and more. If any of you haven’t been to an event yet, I would encourage you to go and check one out. Come join us for community and see how God might bless you through it!

Crossroads… Who Dun it???

By Howard Gee

As Pastor David and I were asked to help rebuild the singles ministry, we decided instead of pulling out the hammer and nails, we would start by laying down a foundation of prayer. Why? It is because we wanted God to build the house so that He would get the glory, and so that He would build something greater than we could build. This is exactly what happened in the book of Nehemiah. When Nehemiah heard about the condition of the wall around Jerusalem, the first thing he did was pray. And prayed he did. For days he prayed, and he even fasted. And then he waited. He waited until God made the way so that the wall could be rebuilt.

So that is what Pastor David and I did. We prayed. We prayed for months. Even when others were not happy to see the lack of “visible” work being done for our singles, we continued to pray. At the time we were praying, it was recognized that there were two distinct singles groups. Due to the anxiety of the parents of college graduates, we were charged to prioritize the building up of the under 35 singles. But regardless of our charge, before we started work on any singles group, we prayed for all singles not knowing when and how the older singles group would ever come to be built.

Well praise God, He knew the when and how. When? After waiting almost a half a year after the initial prayers were laid down. How? By prompting the hearts of various singles to build Crossroads. And prompting He did. He prompted them to develop Crossroads’ monthly fellowships, newsletter, website, Impromptu Sundays, and upcoming Sunday School class. So has God finished with His prompting and building? Only God knows for sure, but if He is prompting you to help with the building up of this ministry, then come roll up your sleeves and see what God is doing in this growing ministry.

So who dun it??? Praise God, God did!
